Rule of Thirds:
- This rule must be followed when creating images, designs, photos, video productions etc.
- Vertical use of the Rule of Thirds can only be used for print or digital creations (excluding video recording)
- Horizontal use of the Rule of Thirds can be used for print, digital creations, and video recording
Headroom and Lead room
Headroom
- It is amount of space between the subjects top of head and top of frame
- Using the rule of thirds will help with creating proper headroom
- Framing your shots with proper headroom is important as it creates an sense of balance within the composition
- To much or to little headroom is seen as unnatural and awkward to the viewer
- It can also take away from the focus the subject requires within the frame and story
Lead room
- It is amount of space in front of the subject in the direction that they are motioning to
- Using the rule of thirds will help with creating proper lead room
- Framing your shots with proper lead room is important as it creates an sense of realistic movement and balance within the composition
- To much or to little lead room is seen as unnatural and awkward to the viewer
- It can also take away from the focus the subject requires within the frame and story
