Activity 1 - Sound Effects
(Editing and Mixing)
|
|
Key Concepts
- within your project, organization of your media/content is crucial
- create bins to keep media organized accordingly (ie: video, audio etc.)
- each sound effect/foley must be given its own audio track (this will keep your project organized and allow for full control of every sound)
- the key is to layer your sound and focus on timing and audio levels in order to enhance the story and actions of the actor(s)
Audio Levels
- Dialogue and/or Voice Over: -3 to -6dB
- Sound Effects/Foley: -6 to -21dB (approx. as it is dependent on the motivation of the story and actions of the actor - ask your self what impact do you want that sound to have in the final film?)
- Music/Soundtrack: -18 to -21dB (approx.)
Activity 1 - Requirements:
Complete both sound effects scene edits in Premiere Pro to create the illusion of chase scene (ie: ice cream truck, and barking/attacking dogs.) or combined both scenes into one complete edit. Remember all the sound effects must be motivated by the story and character actions.
Premiere Pro project is accurately setup and properly organized
Workflow:
- project name (ie: Act 1_Sound in Film, Act 1_Sound Effects etc.)
- media imported into labelled bins/folders
- sequence(s) kept in main project window
- sequence(s) settings match media (ie: resolution, fps etc.)
Sequence(s):
- unused video tracks are deleted
- each sound effects has been put into separate audio track
- timing of each sound effect is motivated by story and character actions
- audio is adjusted and set to proper levels (ie: use of audio gain and
key framing demonstrated) and are also motivated by story
and character actions
Final Sound Effects Video:
- ensure the work area bar in your sequence spans your entire edit - rendered and exported with the following settings
- File > Export > Media
- Format: MPEG2
- Preset: HDTV 1080p 29.97 High Quality
- Output Name: "Student First Name_Act 1_Sound Effects.mpg"
- Video and Audio Export boxes (both checked)
- Video settings tab:
Quality set to 5
Bitrate settings - Min. set to 8; Target set to 10; Max. set to 12
- Source Range: Work Area
Submit the following two files to the course server:
- Premiere Pro project file (.prproj)
- Final exported video file (.mpg)
